RYA Day Skipper Theory – Online

The RYA Day Skipper Theory Online Course offered by Ardent Training is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of chartwork, navigation, meteorology, and the basics of seamanship.

Course Highlights

The course comprises 15 modules filled with interactive activities and knowledge checks to enhance the distance learning experience.

The course is delivered in both video and text formats, allowing for flexible and personalized learning. Students have unlimited on-demand support from world-class RYA instructors. Completing this course will boost confidence and competence, enabling students to transition from crew member to day skipper.

Course Resources and Support

Upon enrolling in the course, students gain access to:

● The course module and lessons via the website.
● The student forum and discussions, a place to engage with other students and instructors.
● Live support from our instructors via our chat window, email, phone, or your preferred method between 0800 and 2000 (UK time) 364 days a year.
● The student pack which will be posted out within 24 hours containing charts and professional navigation tools.
● The RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Certificate upon completion of the course and assessment.
● Access to a fully video-presented course and written content for 12 months.
● There is over 22 hours of video content, spread across 110 lessons. The estimated study time (including exams) is 50 hours.

Course Delivery

The RYA Day Skipper theory course is delivered in both text and video formats. Each module is broken down into engaging lessons followed by knowledge checks. Students also have module assessments, which comprise official RYA exercise questions. All module assessments are reviewed by our qualified instructors, who provide personal feedback on the student’s progress.

RYA Day Skipper Theory Exam

Once all the coursework is completed, we help students determine if they’re ready for the online RYA Day Skipper Theory exam. This exam consists of two 1.5-hour papers and is completed at home. Personal feedback is provided from the examiner.

The exam is included in the course fee (unless it needs to be invigilated for commercial purposes), and our team won’t give up on any student until they pass.

Following successful completion, students receive the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased certificate. To obtain the full RYA Day Skipper course qualification, students will also need to complete a practical part of the course at a practical centre of their choosing.

For those needing to use the RYA Day Skipper certificate for a commercially endorsed RYA Day Skipper licence, an invigilated exam may be necessary, which might incur a small additional fee payable directly to the invigilator.*

*A few students intending to use the RYA Day Skipper certificate as a Skipper of a commercial vessel may need to get their final exam invigilated. We will arrange this at the most convenient location available to you, however, as it may involve getting a third party invigilator, there may be a small additional fee to be paid directly to the invigilator.
